Ben Stokes may have been a thorn in the flesh for Team India over the years in their historic rivalry with England but the premier allrounder and charismatic cricketer faces no sense of animosity from fans based here.

Whenever the leading English match-winner has visited the Indian shores, he has been greeted with immense love and adulation by crowds across venues. Indian Premier League (IPL) has certainly played its part, with Stokes now plying his trade for the mighty popular Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The love and adulation were visible once again when Stokes stepped shores at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi for the ICC World Cup 2023 league stage encounter against Afghanistan on Sunday (October 15).

Even as the injured cricketer could take no part in the understated contest, there was no shortage of loud cheers for him when he was seen on the sidelines by a healthy crowd that came out to watch the neutral clash.

Stokes was seen standing next to the boundary cushions to help one of the England fielders with the nutritional drink under the Delhi heat. The packed crowd instantly recognised the tall-statured cricketer and roared collectively for the English talisman.

Indian fans reinforced their deep-felt admiration for Stokes, who enjoys a terrific global fanbase for countless feats and match-winning performances. The player is best remembered for his counterattacking knock in the 2019 final at Lord's when England were crowned world champions four years back.

In a video going viral on social media, the Delhi crowd is seen cheering for one of their favourite overseas cricketers even as Stokes took no real part in the England-Afghanistan contest. The experienced head is currently under a persistent battle with a sore hip and despite encouraging signs in the past few days with his recovery could take no part in the Afghan clash.

Stokes, who missed the fixtures against New Zealand and Bangladesh but batted at length during an extensive net session in the build-up to the Afghanistan game, will now be eyeing the following league match versus South Africa this Saturday (October 21) in Mumbai.
