England's explosive opener Phil Salt was looking in fine touch before an unfortunate run-out halted his charge in the ongoing first ODI against India at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday. Salt made 43 off just 26 balls, fell victim to a terrible mix-up with his partner Ben Duckett.
Phil Salt Departs After Terrible Mix-Up
The incident unfolded in the ninth over when Phil Salt cut a back length delivery towards the cover-point region. Shreyas Iyer put made a brilliant effort and chased the ball down with a swift slide. He in no time made a pinpoint throw to KL Rahul at the striker’s end. Salt, eager for a third run, took off, only to find his partner ball-watching.
Both batters ended up at the same end, leaving Rahul with the simplest of tasks to dislodge the bails.
This wicket broke England’s 75-run opening stand, giving India their first breakthrough. The dismissal seemed to rattle the visitors as debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal soon pulled off a sensational catch to remove Ben Duckett.
With two quick wickets, India has clawed their way back into the contest after England’s blazing start. The onus is now on England’s middle order to stabilise the innings and build on the early momentum. At the time of writing this article, England have failed to continue their momentum and are at 93 runs at the loss of three wickets. Joe Root and Jos Buttler are present at the crease.
