Rajasthan Royals squandered away its explosive start against CSK in match 11 of the IPL 2025 season. After racing to 100-2 at the halfway stage of the innings, the Royals ended up nearly getting all out by the completion of their 20 overs.

Captain Riyan Parag himself became one of the casualties of Royals’ late collapse as the blistering middle-order batter was bested by Matheesha Pathirana’s searing and pacey yorker during the slog overs. Parag managed to list 37 runs during his 28-ball stay at the crease at a relatively low strike rate of 132.14.

Pathirana knocks over RR skipper Riyan Parag

Batting at number four and arriving to the crease in the eighth over of the innings after the fall of senior man Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Riyan Parag found some form with a season-best 37-run knock. However, the attacking middle-order batter consumed 28 deliveries in the process to counter the continuous fall of wickets from the other end.

Aiming to take on CSK’s speed gun Matheesha Pathirana during the slog overs, Parag lost his off and middle stumps to a searing yorker from the speedster, thus evoking worried reaction from Rajasthan Royals’ head coach Rahul Dravid in the dugout.

Prior to the match, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had won the toss and opted to field first. Despite the fall of early wicket of opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajasthan Royals got off to an explosive start courtesy of number three batter Nitish Rana. The cricketer smeared a 21-ball half-century, one of the fastest of the IPL 2025 season, and top-scored in the innings with 81 runs off just 36 deliveries.

However, the Royals failed to close out the innings as they accrued just 82 runs from the final 10 overs to reach 182-9.
