Steve Smith's catch left everyone stunned [Source: @7Cricket/x.com]
When it comes to sensational catches, Steve Smith is the man who never disappoints. The Aussie skipper, known for his sharp reflexes and magnetic hands, added yet another classic to his growing list of blinders during Day 3 of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.
Steve Smith Defied Gravity With Insane One-Handed Grab
If there’s one thing Steve Smith loves almost as much as scoring runs, it’s grabbing stunners at slip and this one was a proper screamer. It all went down in the 40th over of Sri Lanka’s second innings.
Matthew Kuhnemann bowled a full delivery around off that spun viciously, catching Dhananjaya de Silva off guard. The Sri Lankan skipper tried to defend but could only manage a thick edge. The ball was flying low and fast, but Smith was already on it like a hawk.
Diving low to his right at first slip, Smith snatched the ball inches above the turf with his right hand, completing a breathtaking one-handed catch. Dhananjaya de Silva had to walk back for 23 off 46, while Smith casually added another gem to his catching highlight reel.

Smith Hits 198 Test Catches
This catch marked Smith’s 198th grab in Test cricket and he’s getting closer to the top spot in the all-time list. Earlier in the match, Smith had equalled Aussie legend Ricky Ponting’s record of 196 catches when he dismissed Kamindu Mendis in the first innings.
A few overs later, he surpassed Ponting with his 197th catch by sending Prabath Jayasuriya packing. Now with 198 catches to his name, Smith is just 12 shy of Indian legend Rahul Dravid’s record of 210 catches.
At this pace, and with the way Smith is snatching everything in sight, Dravid’s record might be in serious danger sooner than we think. With a bit of luck and a whole lot of cricket left in him, it won’t be long before Smith sits on top of the catching charts.
Aussies In Command In Galle
As for the match, Australia has been in the driver’s seat. Sri Lanka posted 257 in their first innings but Australia responded in style with a massive 414, thanks to centuries from Steve Smith and Alex Carey.
The hosts are now battling at 137/5 after 43 overs, still trailing by 20 runs. Angelo Mathews is fighting hard on 55, while Kusal Mendis is trying to settle at the other end.
But with Smith lurking in the slips, Sri Lanka will need more than just luck to survive this Aussie assault.
