A dejected Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer was forced to walk back to the dug-out as he missed out on a deserving half-century in the on-going semi-final clash of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Iyer looked in absolutely brilliant form and rhythm before Atit Sheth from the opposition came and put an end to his innings.

The right-handed batter scored a quick-fire 46 runs off just 30 balls and slammed four boundaries and three maximums to help accelerate the team's total. However, when he missed out on a half-century he looked absolutely annoyed at himself.

In the 13th over, Sheth bowled a short of a length delivery around off, Shreyas Iyer calmly sat back and went for a pull however it got off the bottom half of the bat. Pania came in running from the long on towards his right and put in a good slide to take a safe catch and dismiss the skipper.

Mumbai Qualify For SMAT 2024 Final

Mumbai entered the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, chasing down Baroda's total of 158 easily in 17.2 overs. Ajinkya Rahane played a blazing knock that fetched him 98 from 56 balls, thus easing Mumbai to victory.

Rahane started with brilliance at the chase, as was brief support from Prithvi Shaw (8) and Shreyas Iyer (46), in which Mumbai breezed past the power play for 61/1. Rahane's third consecutive half-century (off 28 balls) and a promising 88-run partnership with Iyer put them in charge. Rahane fell short of his century by just two runs, but Shedge completed a six-wicket win for the visitors.
