Day 2 of the first test between Australia and Pakistan went on floors earlier today. The hosts were bundled for 487 runs after Mitch Marsh missed a well-deserved hundred, and Aamer Jamal bagged six wickets on debut.

It was then time for the visitors to tackle the lethal Australian pace unit. Pakistani openers Imam-Ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique showed exceptional patience and grit to record a wicketless session.

However, during the 74-run partnership, Australia produced a big run-out chance. In the 35th over, Shafique tapped a Nathan Lyon classic delivery to register a dot.

The ball was picked up by Marnus Labuschagne at silly mid-on and made a swift throw at wicketkeeper Alex Carey while Shafique was still outside of his crease.

Carey used his presence of mind to attempt a run-out, but unfortunately, the bails didn't come off. Replays later showed that when Carey made contact with the stumps, Shafique's foot was in the air. Thus, had the bails come off, the Pakistani opener was a goner.

While the Australian wicketkeeper pleaded his case, citing his contact with stumps, the umpires seemingly discarded the appeal. And with that, Abdullah Shafique survived a big scare.

However, the missed chance didn't cost the Australians much, as Lyon got his man a couple of overs later. Shafique nicked a low delivery as David Warner clubbed a regulation catch to end Shafique's resilient stay.

The newly minted Pakistani captain, Shan Masood, then tried to build a partnership with Imam-Ul-Haq but lost his nerve during the final few minutes of the third session.

With only a few overs left for the day, Pakistan decided to send night watchman Khurram Shahzad to the crease. The night watchman survived the challenge, and Pakistan ended day 2 of the Perth test with 132 runs on board at the loss of two wickets, leaving a trial of 355 runs.
