Akash Madhwal's return to the Mumbai Indians (MI) lineup has worked as a charm for the five-time champions as the hero from last season ripped apart Sanju Samson with a delivery pitched in perfect channel.

In a tricky chase, after losing Yashasvi Jaiswal early, captain Samson and Jos Buttler formed a firm partnership at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, but the RR skipper could not go big against MI. 

Madhwal bowled a short of a length delivery wide in the channel, and the ball came late off the deck. Samson lost his plot on that occasion as he under-edged it onto the furniture. The RR captain got dismissed on 12 off 10 balls.

On his return, Madhwal sent Jos Buttler and Ravichandran Ashwin packing, bringing MI into the game.

Meanwhile, the MI batters - playing in their first home game of the season - failed against the likes of Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal and Nandre Burger, as they could only post 125 runs on the board.

At the time of publishing, the Royals have lost four wickets in the chase, needing 36 runs in 43 balls.
