In a notable incident during the opening day of the New Zealand's first Test against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Stadium, spinner Ajaz Patel issued a friendly warning to Bangladesh batsman Mominul Haque for straying too far out of his crease.

Mominul received gentle warning from Patel to stay inside his crease

The event unfolded in the post-lunch session with Bangladesh at 133 for 2. Mominul, who had just arrived at the crease with a score of 7, and his partner Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who was on 61, were building a steady partnership.

Patel, who had already made an impact by claiming the wicket of Zakir Hasan earlier in the match, brought attention to the cricketing law regarding the non-striker's position during his delivery stride.

In the 39th over, he abruptly stopped in the final phase of his bowling action to point out Mominul's bat, which was noticeably out of the crease. Patel’s act served as a tacit reminder of the risk of being run out for leaving the crease too early, as stated in Law 38.3 of the game. Despite the seriousness of the warning, Patel displayed a light-hearted demeanour, smiling as he returned to his bowling mark.

After the incident, Mominul managed to contribute a respectable 37 off 78 balls before being caught behind off Glenn Phillips' bowling. Patel finished with two wickets in the innings, including the crucial dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim.

Meanwhile, having opted to bowl first, New Zealand successfully restricted Bangladesh to 310 for 9 by the end of the day. Phillips emerged as the standout bowler for New Zealand, claiming four wickets.
