On Friday, February 21, Afghanistan locked horns against South Africa in the 3rd match of Champions Trophy 2025. The Proteas won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision turned out to be good as the Men in Green, despite losing an early wicket, put quick 100 runs on the board. 

Talking about the wicket, Tony de Zorzi was the first one to depart. 40-year-old Mohammad Nabi provided the crucial breakthrough as the right-arm off-spinner beat Zorzi with pace in the air, and it forced the southpaw not to hit a clean shot and give a simple catch to Azmatullah Omerzai at mid-on.

It was a special wicket as Afghanistan are making its debut in Champions Trophy history, and Nabi became the first player in Afghan history to take a wicket in this prestigious fifty-over event. Ryan Rickelton Silences Afghanistan Crowd With His Batting Prowess

Tony de Zorzi's wicket fell on the first ball of the 6th over. Since then, Ryan Rickelton and Temba Bavuma stitched an unbeaten 70-runs stand for the 2nd wicket. Talking about the ongoing match, then South Africa are 96/1 after 18 overs with Rickelton smashing a fifty and eying his maiden century in an ODI ICC event. 

It is a crucial match for both teams as a single defeat would put any side on the verge of knocking out of the tournament given the format of the competition.
