Wanindu Hasaranga Makes Place For Farooqi As Samson Wins Invites Gill's GT To Bat First

Gujarat Titans (GT) will square off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 23rd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The match will be held at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 9, 2025. In a significant development, RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bowl first. 

It is important to note that for RR Fazalhaq Farooqi and Tushar Deshpande are in the playing XI. Wanindu Hasaranga and Yudhvir Singh Charak will miss the match. Talking about GT, Sherfane Rutherford replaces Washington Sundar and Arshad Khan replaces Ishant Sharma.

GT vs RR's Journey So Far

Rajasthan Royals have had a rollercoaster start to their IPL 2025 campaign. The team has managed to secure two wins from their first four matches but will be looking to find more consistency against GT. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans have been in formidable form, winning three out of their first four games and occupying second place on the points table.

Sanju Samson: "We would like to bowl first due to the conditions. We expect some dew in the 2nd Innings so we want to chase. Yeah absolutely sir. As you know each and every game in the IPL are very important for us. We were grateful in the last two games as we have got some momentum and we want to take it forward. It feels great to be back leading the side and also keeping wickets. As I said, it's a new looking side. Though we had retained 6 players but still it's a new team. The wicket looks really good. I feel it's a high scoring surface. If the batters bat well and the bowlers bowl well, we are in for a good game.Wanindu Hasaranga misses out due to personal reasons and Farooqi comes in for him."

Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Captain): "I would have bowled first as well. Looking at the past few matches, there was some dew. We have batted first here plenty of times and look to do it again. We are not really thinking about how many matches we have won or lost. We are looking at each game as equal. When the top 4 are getting runs, there's always talk of the middle order not getting enough balls in the back. But as soon as top 3 or 4 are getting the job done for the team, we are happy with that."
