Virat Kohli’s much-anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy after 13 years ended in heartbreak as the stalwart was dismissed for just six runs against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday (January 31). It was expected that Kohli would make a strong comeback, lasted only 15 balls before fast bowler Himanshu Sangwan shattered his stumps with a brilliant delivery.
Kohli Falls Early At His Ranji Return
Virat Kohli entered the field after Yash Dhull’s dismissal, teh star batter initially showed glimpses of his class with his trademark off-drive. However, the joy was short-lived. In the 28th over of Delhi’s first innings, Himanshu Sangwan, coming over the wicket, bowled a full-length delivery that pitched outside off-stump and jagged back sharply.
Kohli attempted another drive but was caught off guard as the ball sneaked through the gap between bat and pad and crashed the off-stump. After the dismissal Sangwan was seen all pumped-up and enjoyed the dismissal with full energy and enthusiasm.
The packed Arun Jaitley Stadium, filled with fans eager to witness Kohli’s homecoming, was left in stunned silence as their hero made the long walk back to the dressing room. Ironically, the former India captain had to exit through the very pavilion named after him.
With Kohli struggling for form in Test cricket over the past year, this Ranji Trophy match was seen as a crucial opportunity for him to regain confidence ahead of upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. It is important to mention that his early dismissal has only added to the pressure, leaving questions about his rhythm and form in the longest format.
