On Sunday, November 30, the fans in Ranchi witnessed history as Virat Kohli brought up his 52nd ODI hundred and helped India put a massive 349 runs on the board. In reply, the Men in Blue dismantled South Africa's top order, but the middle-order had other plans.
The heroics of Matthew Breetze, Dewald Brevis, and Marco Jansen nearly sealed the deal for the Proteas. Eventually, the Rainbow Nation fell short of 17 runs.
Virat Kohli was the key figure behind India's win and brought smiles back after a tough two weeks where South Africa handed India an embarrassing whitewash at home. Meanwhile, the former India captain is now trending on social media as a video has emerged of the right-handed batter avoiding South Africa head coach Shukri Konrad during a post-match handshake.
In the now-viral clip, both teams were congratulating each other after an exciting game, but Virat notably walked past Shukri over his recent 'make India grovel' remark.
Why did Virat Kohli ignore Shukri Conrad?
During the 2nd Test between India and South Africa, the Proteas were well ahead in the game and were expected to declare their innings after the first session break. However, much to everyone's surprise, the visitors kept on batting till the 2nd session, and during the post-day conference, Conrad was asked about the team's decision, which is when he stated that he wanted 'India to grovel'.
The use of the word sparked a debate and was considered a derogatory term by many in the cricketing community. The term has historical baggage in cricket because Tony Greig, a former England captain, famously used it as a racial slur before a 1976 series against the West Indies, which angered the West Indies team and led to them defeating England.
