Australian opener, Usman Khawaja has scripted history for his team in the on-going first Test match against Sri Lanka. The 38-year-old became the first batter in Australia's history to slam a double ton on Sri Lankan soil. He stood tall on Day 1, showing his resilience and undeterred attitude and continued his exploits on the second day of the match as well.
Khawaja, who hit his maiden ton in Sri Lanka yesterday, marked his 16th Test match hundred. And now, his double ton has also opened the record books once again as he is the only batter from Australia to register a double century in SL.
He reached this remarkable moment during the 111th over, Prabath Jayasuriya came over the wicket and delivered a tossed-up ball around off. Usman Khawaja stepped down the track, tapping it to the right side of Jayasuriya. He misjudged the situation as he expected the mid-off fielder to take charge. However, the ball rolled harmlessly to mid-off, and Khawaja quickly seized the opportunity and sealed a single.
The Aussie left-hander, celebrated his hard-warner milestone as he rose his bat and helmet in sheer happiness. He showcased immense patience and composure on both the days and the reward for that was his remarkable achievement. He dropped to his knees, offering thanks to the god for this achievement as he received the applause from fans and teammates in the dressing room.
