The Rohit Paudel-led Nepal team defeated hosts USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on October 19 to seal their three-match T20I series with a game to spare.
Kushal Bhurtel’s majestic 92* pushes Nepal to 170
Seamer Saurabh Netravalkar trapped Nepal’s Aasif Sheikh in front with a peach to deliver the opening breakthrough for USA in just the third over of the match. Sheikh’s opening partner Anil Sah restored some stability to Nepal’s faltering top-order start by carving 25 cautious runs during his 49-run partnership with Kushal Bhurtel.
With Nepal reaching 60-2 around the first 10 overs of the innings, unbeaten Bhurtel ensured his team reached a commanding 170-6 from 20 overs. The number three batter launched seven boundaries and six sixes to top-score with 92* from just 54 balls.
Gulsan Jha (19 off 12) and captain Rohit Paudel (18 off 14) also chipped in with handy runs before both were dismissed by Nosthush Kenjige (2-21) and Jasdeep Singh (2-32) in the middle overs.
Karan and Sompal induce late collapse amidst Andries’ 62
Chasing 171 for a win, USA lost captain and opener Monank Patel to Karan KC (3-35) in just the second over of the innings. Saiteja Mukkamalla and number three Andries Gous fought back for the hosts with a valiant 92-run partnership for the second wicket. Mukkamalla chipped in with 47 runs from 41 balls before mistiming one off Dipendra Singh Airee at the brink of USA’s 100-run mark.
Aaron Jones, Milind Kumar, Shayan Jahangir and Harmeet Singh also fell in quick succession in the backend of the innings without notching up notable scores. Amidst tumbling wickets, a defiant Gous marched on to list a fine 62 from 43 balls with three boundaries and four sixes.
While Andries Gous’ innings kept the chase alive for the USA, his dismissal to Sompal Kami (2-34) in the final over helped Nepal seal a thrilling tie.
Sompal Kami’s two-fer leads Nepal’s Super Over win
Sompal Kami knocked over Shayan Jahangir and had Aaron Jones caught out by Dipendra Singh Airee to envelop USA’s Super Over charge for just two in four balls. Nepal captain Rohit Paudel and Kushal Bhurtel easily shrugged off their three-run target with two balls to spare.
The outcome helped Nepal take a 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. The two teams will now face each other in a dead-rubber the following day at the same venue.
