Meerut Mavericks justified their table-topping tag from the UP T20 League 2024 season by defeating Kanpur Superstars in a high-octane finale at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on Saturday, September 14.

Opening the innings with Shoaib Siddiqui, attacking southpaw Shaurya Singh blazed his way to three sixes and six boundaries to slap 56 runs from just 23 deliveries at the top of the order. Singh’s partnership with Siddiqui fetched 77 runs for the Kanpur Superstars in less than seven overs before the half-centurion was halted by Meerut Mavericks spinner Zeeshan Ansari.

Rizvi’s 36-ball knock was aided with handy assistance from Shoaib Siddiqui (35 off 31) and unbeaten Ankur Malik (26* off 22) as the Superstars mounted 190-5 from 20 overs.

Despite falling to 106-4 at the halfway stage of the chase, Meerut Mavericks skipper Madhav Kaushik marched on and formed match-defining partnerships with Divyansh Rajput (24 off 20) and Ritik Vats (20* off 10) for the subsequent two wickets. Kaushik himself top-scored with 69 unbeaten runs from just 43 deliveries with a couple of boundaries and five towering sixes to steer Meerut Mavericks to a remarkable heist in the final over.

Kaushik’s run-chase blinder helped the Mavericks seal the 2024 UP T20 League by five wickets.
