Munawar Faruqui’s luck seems to have deserted him entirely in the ongoing Entertainer Cricket League (ECL 2024). The Mumbai Disruptors captain, known for his comedic brilliance, found himself at the centre of an unfortunate runout. For the second consecutive game, Faruqui was run out for a diamond duck, a bitter pill to swallow for the star who has been eager to make his mark in the tournament.

Munawar Faruqui’s misfortune struck again with back-to-back diamond ducks

In Saturday’s clash against the Bangalore Bashers at the IG Indoor Stadium, Delhi, Faruqui once again walked back without facing a single ball, falling victim to a tragic mix-up on the very first delivery of Mumbai’s chase.

The target was 162, and Faruqui opened the innings alongside Samarth Jurel. It seemed like a routine start until the very first ball of Gagan Sangwan’s over created chaos. Jurel tapped the ball towards midwicket, and Faruqui immediately set off for a single. However, Jurel hesitated and sent his partner back.

Munawar Faruqui, caught between a rock and a hard place, couldn’t make it back in time as Tanush Sethi's direct hit found him short of his crease. The replay showed that Faruqui’s bat was still in the air when the bails lit up, sealing his fate with yet another diamond duck.

As the reality sank in, Faruqui’s heartache was evident, but the moment took a lighter turn when Bangalore Bashers captain, Abhishek Malhan, aka Fukra Insaan, walked over to console the disheartened skipper.

In his usual fun fashion, Abhishek Malhan teased Faruqui about his second diamond duck in a row, trying to lift his spirits before he left the field. It was a small moment that showed their friendly equation amid the chaos, but Faruqui's disappointment was clear as day.

The cruel irony is that this isn't the first time misfortune has struck Faruqui in this tournament. In Mumbai Disruptors' previous match against the Lucknow Lions, he too was run out for a diamond duck. While his side managed to win that game convincingly by 50 runs, his back-to-back runouts are bound to sting.

Will Munawar lead Mumbai make it two wins in a row?

Munawar, who had been eyeing a big innings to prove his mettle, now finds himself in a position where his captaincy is solid, but his performances with the bat have become a tale of woe. Despite these setbacks, Faruqui will be hoping to bounce back from his bad day at the office and turn the tide as the tournament progresses.

Meanwhile, before Munawar’s ill-fated exit, Bangalore Bashers posted a competitive 161/6, thanks to standout performances from Umang Sethi (47 off 11) and Ketan Patel (47 off 19).

At the time of writing, Mumbai Disruptors were 71/3 after 3.2 overs, with Abhishek Varma smashing six sixes already and Aditya Singh Bhadoria standing firm at the crease. Needing 91 runs in 40 balls, the match hangs in the balance as Munawar's Mumbai looks to make it two in two.

Whether Mumbai can pull off a victory remains to be seen, but the Munawar’s diamond duck is sure to remain a talking point for fans.
