South Africa Women obliterated their New Zealand counterparts in match seven of the 2025 World Cup. While Nonkululeko Mlaba hogged the limelight with the ball, Tazmin Brits struck a classy century to make lightwork of New Zealand’s total in the run-chase.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the seventh match of the 2025 Women’s World Cup between New Zealand Women and South Africa Women, as it panned out at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Monday, October 6.
Mlaba wrap up NZ for just 231 despite Sophie Devine’s 85
South African fast bowler Marizanne Kapp (1-34) trapped legendary New Zealander Suzie Bates off the first ball of the match for a duck. Georgia Plimmer (31 off 68) and number three Amelia Kerr (23 off 42) took their time to score some crucial runs but both well-set batters failed to justify their splendid starts, as they were dismissed by Chloe Tryon (1-24) and Nadine de Klerk (1-32) respectively.
Struggling at 101-3 around the halfway stage, captain Sophie Devine led her team from the front with a courageous 85 from 98 balls. Brooke Halliday also made a cracking 45 in just 37 balls to lead New Zealand’s recovery. However, Nonkululeko Mlaba came up clutch for South Africa in the final 12 overs with four big wickets (4-40) to wrap up the ‘White Ferns’ from 187-3 to 231 all out in 47.5 overs.
Tazmin Brits, Sune Luus anchor South African chase
Chasing 232, South Africa lost captain and opening batter Laura Wolvaardt for just 14 in the third over of the innings to Jess Kerr (1-41). Wolvaardt’s opening partner Tazmin Brits struck a frugal 101 in 89 balls to negate New Zealand’s early advantage, sharing a match-defining 159-run second-wicket stand with Sune Luus. While Brits clattered 15 boundaries and a six in her counterattacking knock, Sune composed 83* in 114 balls to steer South Africa past the 200-run mark.
Despite late wickets from Amelia Kerr (2-62) and Lea Tahuhu (1-27), South Africa Women won the match in just 40.5 overs with six wickets in hand.
