SRH vs LSG: Aiden Markram Explains Why Abhishek Sharma Conceded Five Sixes

After being handed two demoralising defeats, Lucknow Super Giants got back to winning ways, as they swatted aside Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in the 58th group-stage fixture of the IPL 2023 on Saturday. Batting first, SRH posted a competitive total of 182 runs, which LSG chased in the final over, courtesy of a sensational cameo from Nicholas Pooran.

However, the turning point was the 16th over, as Pooran and Marcus Stoinis bullied Abhishek Sharma, hitting him for five sixes and collecting 31 runs. The expensive over from the youngster swung the game completely into LSG's favour, as they eventually went on to register a much-needed victory.

After the game concluded, SRH skipper Aiden Markram explained that the plan was to bowl onto the pitch, but unfortunately, Sharma succumbed to the pressure of bowling against two T20 superstars like Pooran and Stoinis.

"The message was to bowl into the wicket. Pressure is a different thing. When you are put under pressure by big guys like Stoinis and Pooran, you will be tested."

The stylish Proteas batter also urged his troops to keep the basics right and win their remaining games to keep their playoff hopes alive.

"[On why he didn't bowl] Glenn did his job, I don't think I was the man for the job [to bowl]. It's about playing good cricket in the next three matches and you don't know, it might be enough for us if we win big, I haven't done the math yet [for the playoffs]."
