Sri Lanka will look to keep their winning streak alive as they lock horns with Bangladesh in their first Super 4 encounter of Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday, September 09 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Sri Lanka has performed admirably in the tournament, winning both of their matches in the league stage against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. They commenced their tournament journey with a thumping five-wicket victory over Bangladesh and maintained their winning streak by narrowly defeating Afghanistan by two runs, securing a spot in the Super 4.

As the Asia Cup 2023 was about to kick off, one by one, Sri Lanka's star players were ruled out of the tournament. Amidst several challenges, it seemed unlikely that the Islanders could endure the competition without their key players. However, they proved skeptics wrong by coming together as a unit and reaching the Super 4 stage. 

Heading into this game, Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Kusal Mendis are the big hitters to watch out for with the bat, while Kasun Rajitha, Dunith Wellalage, Matheesha Pathirana, and Maheesh Theekshana are the ones who will be doing the damage with the ball. 

Bangladesh 

On the other hand, for Bangladesh, it has not been all sunshine and rainbows. They kicked things off in Asia Cup 2023 with a tough five-wicket loss to Sri Lanka. But then, they bounced back big time against Afghanistan, smashing them by a whopping 89 runs to make it to the Super 4. However, in their first Super 4 match against Pakistan, they got whacked with a seven-wicket defeat.  

Speaking of their last match, Bangladesh couldn't quite get their groove, getting all out for just 193 runs in 38.3 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim carried the team with 53 runs. In the second half of the game, their bowlers failed to put up much of a fight as Babar Azam & Co. chased down the target in 39.3 overs. 

Looking ahead to this match, they are banking on their bowlers to step up their game. There is also that score to settle from their last encounter when Sri Lanka got the better of them with a five-wicket victory in the group stage. However, Sri Lanka isn't an easy nut to crack, riding a wave of confidence after staying unbeaten.
