In a remarkable achievement, Shubman Gill broke legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar's record for the most runs as an Indian captain in a Test series. The stylish right-hander attained the landmark on day 1 of the fifth Test against England at Kennington Oval.
Gill Goes Past Gavaskar To Top Elite List
Indian captain Shubman Gill has showcased sublime form in the Test series against England. The right-handed batter hammered scintillating centuries at Headingley and Edgbaston before registering a hard-fought ton in the second innings of the Manchester Test.
Talking about the Oval clash, India had a shaky start to their innings, losing the prized wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul in quick succession. However, Gill has got a good start to his innings, guiding the visitors alongside B Sai Sudharsan.
The Punjab-born cricketer was on the verge of eclipsing Sunil Gavaskar on an elusive list. As soon as he brought up his eleventh run in the first innings at the Oval, Gill broke the talismanic cricketer's record for the most runs by an Indian captain in a Test series.

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli claims the remaining three positions among the top five, showcasing his incredible consistency as a batter during his stint as India's Test captain.
Talking about the Oval Test, an early lunch break was taken on day 1, with rain playing spoilsport in the riveting contest. At lunch, India were 72 for two, with Gill and B Sai Sudharsan batting on 15* and 25*, respectively.
