England's promising fast bowler Gus Atkinson had a magnificent start to the fifth Test against India at Kennington Oval. Opening the bowling for the home side, Atkinson bagged the prized wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, trapping the youngster plumb in front of the stumps.

Has Gus Atkinson Played In IPL?

Led by stand-in skipper Ollie Pope, England won the toss and opted to field first in the deciding Test of the ongoing five-match series against India. The hosts' decision to capitalise on the Oval's green pitch paid rich dividends for them, with Gus Atkinson sending Jaiswal packing for two runs.

The right-arm fast bowler consistently challenged the Indian batters with his pace and seam movement, conceding only six runs off his first five overs. As soon as Atkinson grabbed the limelight, fans became curious to know about his overall performance in the Indian Premier League.

It's worth mentioning that Gus Atkinson has yet to play a match in the IPL. He was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for a price of INR 1 Crore in the 2024 mini auction. However, he was eventually replaced by Dushmantha Chameera in the Knight Riders' squad.

Gus Atkinson's IPL Auction History

Despite making himself available for the IPL 2025, Atkinson failed to find a bidder for himself in the subsequent mega auction. He registered in the auction at a base price of INR 2 crores but remained unsold, with no team showing interest in him.

However, as he was one of the registered players, Atkinson will get another chance to enter this year's mini auction. If he remains fit and impresses the IPL franchises with his bowling returns, we might see him bagging a lucrative contract ahead of the 2026 season of the competition.

Talking about the Oval Test, Atkinson has looked absolutely phenomenal; however, India have avoided any further hiccup after Jaiswal's dismissal. As of writing, the visitors were 34 for one, with KL Rahul and B Sai Sudharsan batting on 13* and 6*, respectively.
