In an unfortunate incident, on-field umpire Rohan Pandit got badly injured as Sanju Samson's powerful shot struck him right on his body during the fifth T20I between India and South Africa in Ahmedabad. The incident caused a brief interruption in the high-voltage contest, as the umpire went down on his knees, eventually receiving medical attention.

India's destructive wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson finally got a chance to feature in the South Africa T20Is, with his competitor Shubman Gill getting ruled out due to a niggle. Samson desperately needed a breakthrough knock to keep his T20 World Cup selection hopes alive. He didn't miss out on the opportunity, going berserk from the word go.

The Kerala batter got a blistering start to his innings, punishing the South African pace trio of Jansen, Ngidi and Baartman and ensuring a solid start for the Indian side. As South African skipper Aiden Markram handed the ball to Donovan Ferreira, Samson tried to unsettle the part-time spinner with his stroke play.

After Tilak Varma dispatched the first two balls to the fence and collected eight runs, Samson hit the fourth ball powerfully straight down the ground in pursuit of another boundary. However, unfortunately, his shot hit the on-field umpire Rohan Pandit on his right leg, resulting in an immediate medical attention.

The umpire experienced severe pain around his right knee and went down on the ground. He was attended by the medical staff for quite some time before confirming his availability to officiate the remainder of the contest.

Nevertheless, the way Rohan Pandit fell on the ground became a matter of concern for players from both sides as well as the spectators. However, luckily, it didn't take too long for him to resume his on-field duties.

Talking about Samson, the swashbuckling batter provided a flying start to India with his quick-fire knock. Before Keshav Maharaj knocked him over with a beautiful delivery, Samson smashed four boundaries and two sixes for his 22-ball 37. As of writing, India were 101 for two 10 overs, with Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav batting on 24* and 2*, respectively.
