QDK, Keemo Paul shine with the bat as Durban denies Cape Town's playoff push

A controlled half century from Quinton de Kock, followed by a match winning cameo from Keemo Paul helped Durban’s Super Giants claim a much needed win over MI Cape Town in Match 23 of the ongoing SA20 League. Both the sides are at the bottom of the table with Super Giants getting their third win of the tournament, while MI Cape Town are pushed behind in the playoff race.

Potgieter’s late fireworks power Cape Town to a formidable total

After being asked to bat first, MI Cape Town got off to a slow start as they could only manage a 44 off the first six overs and lost both the openers. They further went on to lose inform George Linde after the powerplay and the visitors found themselves in a middle of menace with only 57 for 3 in the halfway mark.

Rassie van der Dussen, at three was joined by Tim David and the duo started to up the scoring rate. While doing so, van der Dussen departed after scoring a decent 43 off 32 and was soon David followed him to the pavilion, leaving Cape Town with 116 for five with four overs remaining.

After that double strike, Delano Potgieter started to open his hands and set his side for a big finish. Odean Smith at the other end complimented Potgieter as well. Dwaine Pretorius’ last over saw him giving 24 runs and MICT posted a formidable 165, scoring 49 off the last four overs.

Sturdy Breetzke got Durban over the line

Chasing 166, Durban’s Super Giants got off to a good start, thanks to some brilliant batting from skipper Quinton de Kock. The opening batter took couple of overs to settle down but ensured Super Giants finish the powerplay well. Despite losing Ben McDermott early, the home franchise managed a controlled 86 by the end of ten overs.

De Kock was suffering with a finger injury but was looking in great flow. He added 65 runs for the second wicket alongside Matthew Breetzke. Tim David contributed with the ball as well and managed to remove the dangerous looking de Kock. Keemo Paul got promoted up the order and just when the visitors were eyeing a comeback into the game, Paul extracted two huge overs and departed after scoring a 18-ball 31.

The equation came down to a run a ball at the end, but Kagiso Rabada put the pressure back with two quick wickets. However, Breetzke was still there and ensured the Super Giants got over the line.
