MI Cape Town devoured Paarl Royals to return back to winning ways in match number six of the SA20 2025 season at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Bowlers folded up Royals for a paltry total after Reeza Hendricks’ batting exhibition catapulted the hosts to a commanding total upfront.

MI Cape Town lost opener Ryan Rickelton for a run-a-ball eight in the third over to Bjorn Fortuin after captain Rashid Khan won the toss and opted to bat first. Rickelton’s opening partner Rassie van der Dussen and number three Reeza Hendricks batted out for the next nine overs to forge an attacking 79-run partnership for the second wicket.

Taking MI Cape Town to the brink of the 100-run mark, Rassie was knocked over by Dayyaan Galiem for a 33-ball 43. Hendricks composed a swift half-century to top-score for his side with 59 runs at a brisk pace.

The well-set batter was cleaned bowled by Mujeeb Ur Rahman (1-40) in the 16th over shortly after Colin Ingram and George Linde fell to Galiem and Lungi Ngidi (1-43) respectively as the hosts slipped from 94-1 to 127-5.

Delano Potgieter at number six unleashed an 18-ball cameo of 29 runs with two boundaries and two sixes to blaze the MI Cape Town to a competitive 172-7 from 20 overs. For the Royals, fast bowler Dayyaan Galiem picked up his third wicket of the innings during the slog overs in the form of dangerman Dewald Brevis to claim astonishing figures of 3-24.

Paarl Royals openers Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Joe Root together extracted 38 runs from just the first three overs of the run-chase. Setting up their team with a flying start at the top, both well-set batters were humbled by MI Cape Town paceman and legendary South African Kagiso Rabada.

Left-arm spinner George Linde capitalized on the momentum by getting rid of Mitchell Van Buuren and dangerman David Miller in quick succession to plummet the Royals from 38-0 down to 64-4.

Azmatullah Omarzai flattened the off-stump of his fellow Afghanistan national Mujeeb Ur Rahman (34 off 21) to restrict the Paarl Royals to just 139-9 as the hosts walked away with a comprehensive 33-run win.
