India’s rising superstar, Shubman Gill has completed 1000 runs in Test Cricket. He achieved the feat in the ongoing second Test match against South Africa. Shubman Gill came to the crease in the third over of the innings following the departure of Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The 24-year-old made his Test debut three years in the Boxing Day Test in Australia and has played 18 Tests, since. He averages 31.21 and has two centuries and four half-centuries to his name. However, both his centuries have come in the sub-continent and is yet to score a century outside of Asia.

Shubman Gill is, currently, playing at number three in the Indian Test batting line-up. He has also opened the innings for the side but has taken over that position since the exclusion of Cheteshwar Pujara from the side.

Gill failed to make a significant impact in the first Test match against South Africa. Meanwhile, after getting another decent start in Cape Town, the prodigal batter fell poking a good-length delivery into the hands of gully.

India bowl out South Africa for 55 in the first innings

Earlier in the day, India bowled exceedingly well to bundle out South Africa for just 55 runs inside the first session of Day 1 of the second Test. Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball, returning with sensational bowling figures of 6 for 15 in 9 overs. Besides, the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar picked two wickets as well.

As for South Africa’s batting, none of the batters got going. Wicket-keeper Verreynne top-scored with 15 runs off 30 balls.

At the time of writing, India are stirring at 144-4, leading by 89 runs, with Virat Kohli (44*) and KL Rahul (1*) in the middle.
