The 3rd ODI of the five-match series between Australia and South Africa will be played on Tuesday, September 12, at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom, South Africa.

SA vs AUS 3rd ODI, Team Previews

South Africa

The ODI series opener for South Africa has been less than stellar, with two defeats in a row. They now find themselves in a do-or-die situation. Their batting display has been a major concern, with sporadic contributions from the batters. The first match saw them bowling out for 222 runs while batting first, and in the second, they were bundled out for 269 while chasing a mammoth target of 393.

Furthermore, their bowling performance has left much to be desired, evident in their conceding of 392 runs to Australia in the second ODI. Anrich Nortje, in particular, struggled, with an economy rate exceeding 11. This is a significant worry for the Proteas, especially with the 2023 World Cup just around the corner. To put it plainly, a defeat here is out of the question for them and they must clinch a win to keep the series alive.

Australia

On the other hand, it’s hard to praise Australia enough. Despite missing some key players, they have outperformed South Africa in the series so far. David Warner's outstanding form, coming off a century, stands out as a major positive for the Men in Yellow. Additionally, Marnus Labuschagne's recent century adds to their dominance.

Their bowling effort has been nothing short of exceptional, as evidenced in the second ODI where they bowled South Africa out for 269 runs in 41.5 overs. The standout performance came from Adam Zampa, who secured a four-wicket haul, while Nathan Ellis and Aaron Hardie chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Heading into this game, their main aim must be to come out as winners and take an unassailable lead in the five-match series. All in all, with some of the star players taking the field against each other, a power packed 50-overs contest beckons at Potchefstroom.
