Riding on the back of a brilliant century from Aiden Markram, followed by a dominating performance with the ball, South Africa beat Australia by 111 runs in the third ODI at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. After being 2-0 down, the Proteas manage to keep themselves alive in the series with two more games to go.

After being asked to bat first, South Africa started their innings on fast lanes. Captain Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock extracted 64 in the first powerplay, and went on to add 146 for the first wicket.

At the halfway mark, Australia did try to gain some momentum as they managed to remove both the openers in quick succession. However, Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks stitched another 76 runs for the third wicket before Hendricks' innings was cut short by a run-out from Marnus Labuschagne.

The surface was gripping towards the end but Markram held his shape and countered Australian bowlers to take South Africa past the 300-run mark. He went on to complete his century in the last ball of the innings season with South Africa finishing with a mammoth 338/6 in 50 overs.

Shamsi, Maharaj Leads SA Epic Turnaround

In pursuit of 339, Australia got off to another great start. David Warner and Travis Head were in their rampant mode as the pair added 79 runs for the first wickets inside the very first eight overs. Australia went on to go past the 100-run mark once again within the first powerplay.

Looking at the things moving pretty quickly towards the Aussies, Bavuma introduced spin following the powerplay which changed the game on its head. The conditions were dry and there was enough assistance for the spin bowlers. David Warner completed his half century but was unlucky to get out to an unfortunate run-out.

With Warner gone, Shamsi and Maharaj took on the opportunity to trigger a collapse and ran through the Aussie middle order. Furthermore, Gerald Coetzee did the rest of the job, demolishing the Australian lower order and eventually getting them all out for just 227 with more than 15 overs remaining.
