India just can’t seem to win a coin toss! Skipper Rohit Sharma’s luck with the flip has hit rock bottom and the numbers don’t lie.

As India faced off against Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final in Dubai, the coin once again refused to land in his favour. With this latest toss loss, India have now lost 14 consecutive ODI tosses: a world record!

India’s Toss Woes Keep Piling Up

It all started in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad and since then, the men in blue haven’t caught a break. The streak carried on through their South Africa tour in December 2023, Sri Lanka tour in August 2024, and the home series against England in February 2025.

The Champions Trophy hasn’t been any kinder either, with Rohit miscalling the toss in all three league matches before the semi-final.

With this, India have officially surpassed the previous record and set a new benchmark for the longest streak of consecutive toss losses in ODIs.

Most Toss Losing Captain in Cricket? Rohit Sharma Closing in on the Record

While India’s overall streak is a world record, Rohit Sharma himself is inching closer to a personal milestone he’d rather avoid.

The Indian captain has now lost 11 consecutive ODI tosses, tying him with Netherlands’ Peter Borren for second place. The all-time record? 12 toss losses in a row, held by West Indies legend Brian Lara.

One more wrong call and Rohit will equal Lara’s record. Two more, and he’ll become the most toss losing captain in cricket

A Strange Streak That Just Won’t End

Tosses don’t win matches, but they sure set the tone. Losing 14 in a row means India have rarely dictated terms before a game has even begun. The streak has now spanned two captains: Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul but the result stays the same.

With the Champions Trophy semi-final underway, Rohit will hope his batting and bowling unit can make up for his misfortune with the coin. But if there’s one thing he’ll be praying for, it’s that his luck finally turns.

Until then, the coin remains India’s toughest opponent!
