After India's victory against South Africa, an intense conversation between Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir caught the eye of television cameras. In the first ODI, India defeated South Africa by 17 runs in Ranchi on Sunday.
Rohit–Gambhir discussion becomes talking point
But soon after the match, in the viral picture, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir are seen having an animated exchange with Rohit shaking his head at one point before replying. However, the exact topic of conversation between the two is unknown; looking at the picture, both appeared serious, immediately sparking curiosity among fans.
This interaction has become significant because the relationship between Gambhir and India’s senior players has been under constant scrutiny in recent months. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepping away from Test cricket earlier this year, questions have continued to grow about their roles in ODI cricket, particularly in the context of the 2027 World Cup.
Keeping the off-field conversation away, the fact that cannot be denied is that, despite the off-field concerns, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli delivered strong performances in Ranchi. Rohit scored 57 runs in 51 balls, while Kohli produced a brilliant 135 runs in 120 balls at a strike rate of 112.50. Together, the duo stitched a vital 136-run stand for the second wicket to take India to a total of 349.
Chasing the target, South Africa came very near chasing the target, but early strikes from Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh pushed SA to 11 for 3. Although Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch and Matthew Breetzke scored fighting half-centuries.
Gambhir's relationship with RO-KO turns cold
According to a recent report by Dainik Jagran, the relationship between Gambhir and senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is not good and this has also disturbed the atmosphere in the dressing room. The report also suggests the equation is 'turning cold,' between Gambhir and RO-KO.
Adding to several reports, the BCCI, head coach Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are likely to meet in Ahmedabad soon to discuss the future of both senior cricketers.
