The worst thing that could have taken place happened for India as the rain god arrived at the wrong moment to spoil their momentum on Day 1 of the Oval Test match. An early lunch was taken as India, and England players rushed to the dugout, eagerly waiting for the play to resume.
As per Accuweather, there was a rain prediction throughout the day, and it came true, and it will now affect the remaining four days of play.
How rain on Day 1 will affect outcome of the fifth Test
On Day 1, rain ruined more than two hours of play, and as a result, the session timings were revised. The play, which was supposed to end at 11 PM IST, will now end by 11:30, and the play could be extended till midnight.
This will also impact the remaining days, as the lost time on the first day will be recouped by extending playing hours on subsequent days, or by adding time to the match. Normally, a day in a Test match consists of 90 overs per day. But the number of overs lost on Day 1, could be added to the subsequent day. There could also be an early start on Day 2, but that decision depends on the match officials.
Relentless rain on Day 1 could potentially increase chances of a drawn match, since many overs are lost. However, in England, anything could happen, since the pitch behaviour might change, and suddenly there could be a flurry of wickets which could tilt the outcome of the game.
London weather updates on remaining four days
Just like Day 1, the weather prediction for the remaining four days doesn't look good. As per Accuweather, there is a thunderstorm prediction on all four days of the Test match. On Friday, the rain chances are 65%, and on Saturday, it reduce to just 25%. However, on Sunday, the rain percentage skyrockets to 75%, and then 74% on the final day.
