The fifth Test between India and England witnessed an unforeseen interruption as rain played spoilsport in the riveting encounter. When Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan were bravely blunting the English attack on a challenging surface at Kennington Oval, rain arrived at the venue, forcing the on-field umpires to call an early lunch break.
IND vs ENG 5th Test Revised Session Timings
The passing shower at Kennington Oval resulted in a wet outfield, delaying the scheduled start of the post-lunch session. However, as soon as the rain stopped, the groundsmen worked swiftly, preparing the ground match-ready in real quick time.
The on-field umpires, Ahsan Raza and Kumar Dharmasena, had two brief inspections of the pitch as well as the outfield, at 6.30 and 7.00 PM IST, respectively, before giving their approval for the game’s resumption at 7.30 PM IST (3 PM local time), unless rain returns to the venue. As players from India and England are ready to take the field, here are the revised session timings of day 1 of this Test match.
- Afternoon session - 03.00 PM - 05.05 PM Local Time (07.30 PM-09.35 PM IST)
- Tea interval - 05.05 PM - 05.25 PM Local Time (09.35 PM - 09.55 PM IST)
- Evening session - 05.25 PM - 07.00 PM Local Time (plus extra 30 mins for overs not bowled - 07.30 PM Local Time) 09.55 PM - 11.30 PM IST (00.00 AM IST)
Thus, as mentioned above, the post-lunch session will be played from 7.30 PM to 9.35 PM IST, with the tea break set to be taken from 09.35 PM - 09.55 PM IST. The third session kicks off at 9.55 PM IST and we can have 30 minutes of additional play if the light permits.
