An eventful Day 2 of the first Test between Pakistan and West Indies concluded on January 18. After Pakistan were bowled out for 230 in the first session, Sajid Khan and Noman Ali wreaked havoc to pick nine wickets combined. The remarkable spin duo bowled out West Indies for 137 runs in the second inning and added 109 runs in the third inning by stumps, thus securing a 202-run lead.

Here's how Day 2 of first Test between Pakistan and West Indies panned out in Multan:

PAK vs WI Day 2 Highlights: Shakeel-Rizwan brings up 141-run partnership

Despite a horror show from the top order, Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan stitched a 141-run partnership for the fifth wicket in the opening session of Day 2. While Shakeel slammed 87 off 157 balls, Rizwan heaped crucial 71 runs off 133 balls as Pakistan recovered from the early collapse. Sajid Khan’s crucial 18 runs powered Pakistan to a 230 runs total in the first inning and the game was evenly poised.

PAK vs WI Day 2 Highlights: Sajid Khan breathes fire to dismantle Windies top order

Sajid Khan, the experienced spinner, delivered a commendable spell that left West Indies top order in tatters. He removed Mikyle Louis and Keacy Carty in back-to-back deliveries, triggering a brutal collapse. In the fifth over, Sajid struck again to dismiss captain Kraigg Braithwaite and Kavem Hodge in the same over to leave West Indies trailing at 22/4.

The game was set up by Sajid Khan and Noman Ali capitalised on the momentum to wrap up West Indies for a low total. Noman dismissed Alick Athanaze, Justin Greaves, and Tevin Imlach on single digit scores and the Windies were reduced to 91/9, staring at an humiliating end.

However, Warrican (31) and Jayden Seales (22) added some crucial runs before West Indies were eventually bowled out for 137 runs, leaving a trail of 93 runs.

PAK vs WI Day 2 Highlights: Babar Azam fails again after 67-run opening stand

Pakistan had a terrific start to their second innings as opener Shan Masood and Muhammad Hurraira knitted a 67-run opening partnership. Masood slammed a gritty 52 off 70 balls before an unfortunate run out cost him his wicket. The skipper called for the single but fell short on the bowler’s end, which marked a disastrous end to his fine knock.

Babar Azam, meanwhile, extended his woeful form to get dismissed on 5 runs off 11 balls. Azam was beaten on the front pad by Warrican’s good-length ball. The review also didn’t help as the umpire's decision was withheld. At stumps on Day 2, Pakistan had 109 runs on the board at the loss of 3 wickets. The hosts currently have a lead of 202 runs and are favourites to win this contest.
