Pakistan’s left-handed opener Saim Ayub registered an unwanted record by being dismissed for a first-ball duck against India in the high-octane Asia Cup 2025 clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Opening the innings for Pakistan, Saim was outplayed by a well-pitched length delivery from Hardik Pandya, angling away from the bat. Saim played the ball half-heartedly and ended up giving a simple catch to Jasprit Bumrah at point.

This dismissal marked his seventh duck in T20Is, drawing him level with prominent Pakistan batters Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, and Kamran Akmal, who jointly hold the third position on the list of most ducks in T20Is for Pakistan.

Saim Ayub’s record-equalling duck clearly depicts the challenges Pakistan’s batting lineup faces in high-pressure matches, especially against their arch-rivals India.

Talking about the match, Pakistan finished their 20 overs at a modest 127 for 9, despite a gutsy knock from Sahibzada Farhan and a late blitz from Shaheen Shah Afridi.

India was off to a steady start in their chase with Abhishek Sharma giving the 'Men In Blue' a much-needed start. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma kept their eyes fixed on the modest 128-run target, and at the end, India won the match by 7 wickets.

It is important to mention that India is currently placed at the top of the points table with 4 points and two wins in two matches with an NRR of +4.793. On the other hand, Pakistan is in the second position with one win and one defeat in two matches.
