On a night where Brisbane skies were already lit with fireworks, Marnus Labuschagne decided to set Allan Border Field ablaze in his own way. The Redlands star allrounder produced a magnificent leg-spin hat-trick that not only closed the curtains on Valley’s innings but also handed his side the 2025 KFC T20 Max title.
Labuschagne Turns The Game With Incredible Hat-Trick
Jimmy Peirson’s century had given Redlands a mountain of runs (191/6) but Valley still had a sniff with Max Bryant swinging hard. Just when the crowd thought there might be a twist in the tale, Marnus Labuschagne came charging in.
He grabbed three wickets in three balls, ripping out the tail in classic leggie fashion. It was the knockout punch that left Valley floored and Redlands celebrating like there was no tomorrow.
Earlier in the day, Labuschagne had chipped in with the bat, opening alongside Sam Heazlett. Though his cameo ended at 16 off 10, he showed glimpses of his inventive strokeplay, trying ramps and carves right from the first ball.
But it was with the ball that he wrote the script of the night. Three in three, that is the stuff cricketers dream of and he delivered it on the big stage.
Valley’s Hopes Dashed
Valley’s hopes rested on Max Bryant’s fireworks. His 76 off 38 kept the chase alive, but once he departed, it was a steep climb. Labuschagne, already safe with three catches in the field, came back to polish things off in style. In the space of three deliveries, Valley’s resistance crumbled like a house of cards. One over, three wickets, game over as Valley was bowled out for 150 in 17.2 overs.
A hat-trick in a final is as rare as hen’s teeth and Marnus pulled it off with the swagger of a seasoned campaigner. The roar from the Matthew Hayden Stand said it all. For Redlands, it was a night to remember with their Aussie Test star writing his name into T20 Max history.
