IPL 2023, SRH vs RR: Whirlwind Knocks from RR's Top-3 Dismantles Sunrisers Hyderabad

It was expected to be a close-fought battle, but Sunrisers Hyderabad made a mess of the chase and handed Rajasthan Royals the simplest of wins in their first encounter of the IPL 2023.

Chasing a mammoth 204, SRH needed their top-order to fire, but Trent Boult had some other plans and once two wickets fell in the opening over, game was psychologically done and dusted for the Orange Army.

RR's top-3 tears apart SRH bowlers

Put into bat, RR batters started on an aggressive note and made their intentions clear right from the first over. To go toe-to-toe with Jos Buttler is no easy feat, but that is what Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved when he took the charge and was the aggressor in chief early on in the partnership.

On the other hand, Buttler took off from where he left in the last season. The England limited over skipper spared no SRH bowlers and dealt in sixes initially. It wasn't long when the Englishman reached yet another 50-run mark, but was eventually knocked over by Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Skipper Sanju Samson joined the fun and made sure that the run-rate never dropped below the 10 run per over mark. Alongside Jaiswal, he continued the aggressive approach and were all set for a score near the 250-run mark.

Interestingly, just like Buttler, both Jaiswal and Samson departed after breaching the 50-run mark. At one stage, RR looked all set for a big score, but they lost the momentum in the last 5 overs and had to settle for a score of 203.

SRH makes a mess of the chase

When you need 204 to win, the top order is expected to fire right from the word go. But Boult made sure nothing of that sort happened as he knocked over Abhishek Sharma with an out-swinger and Tripathi was hold off at first slip by Jason Holder.

SRH's newest recrutee, Harry Brook joined Mayank Agarwal, but the progress was slow and not steady. Brook struggled to find his feet and was never in the rhythm as Chahal cleaned him over for a pain-staking 21-ball 13.

Once he departed, wicket floodgates opened as one brought the downfall of another. Agarwal tried hard, but with wickets tumbling at one end, there is little that he could do about the scoring rate.

The SRH team brought in Abdul Samad as the impact player in place of Farooqi, but it had little to no impact as the home side surrendered for a paltry 131.

Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan with figures of 4 for 17 in four overs.
