Punjab Kings (PBKS) square off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match No. 66 of the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala at 7.30 PM IST. Notably, this is the last league game for both sides as the tournament edges closer to the playoffs. However, before the game goes live, here is a look at the PBKS vs RR head-to-head record.

PBKS played their last match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the same venue in Dharamsala where David Warner's DC emerged victorious by a 15-run margin.

DC captain, Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and elected to field first. Warner scored 46 off 31 while his opening partner Prithvi Shaw returned to form with a knock of 54 off 38. But it was all about South African Rilee Rossouw who struck his maiden IPL fifty. The left-handed batter remained unbeaten on 82 off just 37 with 6 fours and as many maximums. Phil Salt also amassed a quickfire 26 off 14 as the Capitals posted a huge total of 213/2 on the board. Sam Curran was the pick of the PBKS bowlers for his spell of 2/36 (4).

In reply, Dhawan bagged a golden duck while Prabhsimran Singh scored 22. Atharva Taide smashed a half-century (55 off 42) but it was Liam Livingstone who kept his side in the run-chase. The English international slammed  94 off 48 with 5 fours and 9 maximums but it wasnt enough as the Kings got restricted to 198/8. Pacers Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje picked up two scalps each for DC.


RR in IPL 2023

The Royals have stumbled miserably after a solid start to their current campaign. After winning the first 4 out of the 5 games, RR has now lost 6 out of their last 8 encounters. Like PBKS, they have also played 13 matches with 6 wins and 7 losses. With 12 points and an NRR of +0.140, they are positioned sixth in the table.

RR Last Match in IPL 2023

Sanju Samson's RR suffered an embarrassing and a disastrous loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their last outing in Jaipur. The home side got thrashed by a massive margin of 112 runs.

RCB skipper, Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first. Virat Kohli got dismissed for 18 while Faf led from the front to score 55 off 44. Glenn Maxwell slammed 54 off 33 while Anuj Rawat provided the finishing touch with his cameo of 29* off just 11 as the Royal Challengers reached a total of 171/5 in 20 overs. Adam Zampa and KM Asif picked up two wickets each for RR.

In reply, the Royals registered the third-lowest IPL total of 59. Shimron Hetmyer top-scored for his side with his innings of 35 off 19. All the RCB bowlers were amongst the wickets but seamer Wayne Parnell was the pick of the lot for his spell of 3/10 (3) upfront. The home side got bundled out cheaply in 10.3 overs. Parnell grabbed the Player of the Match award for his solid spell.

RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to field first. Opener Prabhsimran Singh scored 60 off 34 while skipper Shikhar Dhawan smashed an unbeaten 86 off 56 as the visitors reached a total of 197/4 in 20 overs. Jason Holder was the pick of the RR bowlers for his spell of 2/29 in 4 overs. 

In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler racked up just 11 and 19 runs respectively while captain Sanju mustered 42. Shimron Hetmyer struck 36 off 18 with Dhruv Jurel remaining not out on 32 off just 15. But it wasnt enough as the Royals fell just short of their target. Seamer Nathan Ellis won the Player of the Match award for his spell of 4/30 in 4 overs.
