Australia revealed their playing XI for the fifth Test hours leading up to Day 1 proceedings. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh was dropped after a series of failures, with Beau Webster making his debut in red ball cricket.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has reached its final stage, with the fifth Test between India and Australia currently underplay at the Sydney Cricket Ground. While the host team is comfortable leading the series 2-1, the visitors' comeback potential cannot be undermined.
With the stakes so high, both teams made notable adjustments to their playing XI. India dropped captain Rohit Sharma as Jasprit Bumrah walked out for the toss.

On the other hand, Australia dropped all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. The experienced all-rounder initially replaced Cameron Green in the series as the latter endured back surgery. However, his performance hasn't met the standards. In four Tests, he managed to score only 73 runs at an average of 10.43. Hence, Pat Cummins confirmed the need for a fresh change.
A promising all-rounder in Beau Webster has replaced Marsh in the playing XI for the fifth Test against India. Webster is a consistent performer with both the bat and the ball. Since 2022, he has held an average of over 57 with 81 wickets with the ball. Hence, Cummins decided to reward his hard work and handed him his Test debut cap at Sydney Cricket Ground.
India won the toss for the fifth Test and opted to bat first. They made two changes: Shubman Gill for Rohit Sharma and Prasidh Krishna for Akash Deep.
There has been a lot of chatter around instability in the Indian dressing room, and Rohit's absence could be a distinct hint of the same. However, as captain Jasprit Bumrah mentioned, Rohit has opted to rest voluntarily and reaffirmed complete unity within the players.
