New Zealand pacemen and top-order batters smothered India’s confidence with a dominant Day 2 of the series-opening Test match at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Here’s the timeline of how IND vs NZ panned out in Bengaluru:

IND vs NZ Highlights: NZ Pacemen Skittle India’s Finest In 31 Overs

The entirety of India’s star-studded batting line-up folded up for just 46 in 31.2 overs. For New Zealand, former captain and new ball operator Tim Southee delivered the early breakthrough with the wicket of Rohit Sharma (2 off 16).

Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan fell for ducks in the space of an over to William O’Rourke and Matt Henry, respectively, as India crumbled to 10-3 inside the opening hour of the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal survived 63 deliveries to score 13 and formed a brief 21-run partnership, the highest of the innings, with top-scorer Rishabh Pant (20 off 49).

A double strike from William O’Rourke with the wickets of Jaiswal and KL Rahul ensured Team India walked into Lunch at 34-6 from 23.5 overs. O'Rourke (4-22), along with Matt Henry (5-15), mopped up the Indian tail shortly after the lunch break to envelop the hosts for their lowest-ever total at home.

IND vs NZ Highlights: Devon Conway Ensures NZ Lead With Captain Latham

New Zealand captain Tom Lathan and opening partner Devon Conway forged 67 runs together at the top of the order in just 17 overs to take their team past India’s 46 without a wicket. While Latham scored just 15 runs with three boundaries during his cautious 49-ball knock, Conway took on the role of an aggressor with belligerent ball-striking from the other end.

After falling 21 runs behind the visitors, Kuldeep Yadav orchestrated the first breakthrough for Team India by trapping a well-set Latham plumb in front of stumps.

IND vs NZ Highlights: Conway Misses Century, But NZ Well Ahead Of India

Following his 67-run partnership with Tom Latham, Devon Conway shared another 75 runs for the third wicket with Will Young before the latter was entangled by Ravindra Jadeja at 142-2. Conway marched on to list his tenth Test fifty, but the elegant left-hander missed out on a well-deserved century as he was knocked over by Ravichandran Ashwin after pumping out 91 runs from 105 balls.

Middle-order batters Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell batted out the remaining overs of the day until bad light called for an early stumps at 180-3 in 50 overs. The two cricketers will resume New Zealand's first innings on Day 3 with a lead of 134 runs in the bank.
