India are taking on England in the 1st ODI of the three match series at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur. Ahead of the game, England won the toss and opted to bat first.
The visitors had a great start to their innings as their openers, Phil Salt and Ben Duckett got going from the very beginning of the innings. However, the Indian team made a comeback as they picked up a few wickets in quick succession and put the pressure back on the English team.
Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell delivered with two resilient half-centuries in the middle-order to bring the innings back on track. It was the effort by these two batters that ensured that England reached a fighting total. In the end, England managed to post a total of 248 before they were bundled out in the 48th over.
Notably, the Jamtha Stadium is hosting an ODI match after eight long years. As India set off to chase down the moderate looking total, here is a look at what is the highest chase at this venue by India.
India's Record At Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium
Much to the relief of the Indian fans, the team has chased down a target at this venue twice before this game and has done it successfully on both occassions.
Target Chased | Opposition | Won By | Year | Player Of The Match |
---|---|---|---|---|
351 | Australia | 6 Wickets | 2013 | Virat Kohli |
243 | Australia | 7 Wickets | 2017 | Rohit Sharma |
Table - Successful chases by India at Jamtha, Nagpur
The first match was against Australia in Nagpur in 2013. In that game, India chased down a mammoth target of 351 runs, with Virat Kohli emerging as the hero with an unbeatn 115 off just 66 deliveries. Shikhar Dhawan also played well in the game scoring 100 runs off 102 deliveries and setting up the foundation for the six wicket win.
The second time India chased a target at this venue was also against Australia in 2017. This time target was much less of 243 runs. In this case, Rohit Sharma was the highest scorer for India scoring 125 runs off 109 deliveries. India won the match comfortably by seven wickets.
While one of the heroes Rohit Sharma is playing this game, the other hero Virat Kohli is absent. Looking at how the wicket behaved in the first innings, it might be a challenging chase for India, but they will be hoping that they get over the total rather easily and take an 1-0 lead in the series.
