India lead the five-match series 1-0 (Twitter)
After a thrilling first game in Visakhapatnam, India and Australia move further down south to Thiruvananthapuram for the next fixture of the five-match T20I series on Sunday (November 26).
As the Aussies look to bounce back from their defeat while the hosts strive to tighten their grip on the series, the match to be played at the Greenfield International Stadium attains great importance.
The bigger picture of removing chinks and approaching the next T20 World Cup in the Caribbean & USA as a well-oiled unit will be an even greater source of inspiration and encouragement for the two sides that have embraced the transition phase and entered the series with multiple first-choice men rested.
IND vs AUS: Team Previews
India
For India, the way the batting held its own in a stiff run-chase of 209 in what was their most successful chase in T20I history would've inspired great confidence and stability within the group.
Stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav led his troops from the front with a majestic 80 while wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan scored a critical half-century to help end-overs aggressor Rinku Singh continue his storied rise with another perfect finish.
While openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad and middle-order young gun Tilak Varma missed out, the team management would back them to come up with the goods over the coming four matches.
It's the bowling that interim coach VVS Laxman will have to rethink the strategy for, especially with no cover available in the sixth-bowler's role unless India ask Varma to chip in overs. Only Mukesh Kumar (0/29) and Axar Patel (1/32) escaped the hammering on the night while Arshdeep Singh (0/41), Prasidh Krishna (1/50) and Ravi Bishnoi (1/54) were taken to the cleaners.
Australia
Australia would've been equally or more disappointed with their bowling display in the second half as it laid bare their shallow depth and resources with four senior pros rested in Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa.
None bar left-arm seamer Jason Behrendorff (1/25) posed a challenge to Indian batters, who could stamp their authority on the rest of the pack. In a series reserved for backup trials, Australia will still look to back their options. However, the team management would also hope the likes of Tanveer Sangha, Nathan Ellis and Sean Abbott can inspire more confidence about their promise and longevity.
The batting went according to the plans with Josh Inglis producing a memorable 110 off just 50 deliveries to set up the daunting total. But the 2021 champions would know they could've pushed for 220-230 if not for the initial struggles of half-centurion Steve Smith, whose 52 off 41 balls emerged as a rather match-losing effort in high-scoring conditions.

IND vs AUS: Thiruvananthapuram Pitch Report
The pitch at the Greenfield International Stadium is expected to play on similar lines to the one that hosted the first T20I in Vizag, playing dryish for initial set of overs in the first half before quickening up as the dew falls plenty under lights. Historically, the venue has tended to offer hint of seam movement to the pacers but in a T20I it is unlikely to be present and cause batters any trouble. Expect another high-scoring fixture for the series.
