A high-flying Oman unit is set to come across Asian giants Sri Lanka in match number 11 of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 qualifiers. The match, also the fifth Group B fixture, will be Oman's third of the tournament and will be played out at the iconic Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

Sri Lanka thumped the UAE by 175 runs in their first match of the competition. Wanindu Hasaranga was adjudged as 'Player of the Match' for his all-round dexterity, while on the batting front, four of their top five batters listed sparkling half-centuries in the game. The other batter, Charith Asalanka, clubbed a 23-ball 48 to turbo-charge the Sri Lankan innings to 355.

Besides their perfect start to the tournament, Sri Lanka also pipped Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series at home earlier this month. Owing to their recent form and heavyweight reputation, Dasun Shanaka and co. are considered as one of the leading contenders to book their slots for the 2023 World Cup in India later this year.

Oman defeated Ireland and UAE with identical margins in their first two games of the ongoing qualifying event. Currently, they are placed at the top of the Group B points table.

Under Zeeshan Maqsood's leadership, Oman will be looking to replicate their recent success against a stronger Sri Lankan outfit, which will significantly bolster their World Cup qualifying chances.
