Rinku Singh has been the find of IPL 2023 and he proved it once again in a must-win match against the Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday.
Chasing a tricky 177 against a quality LSG bowling attack, KKR lost the plot in the middle overs and once again looked upto Rinku Singh to bail them out of a precarious situation. With wickets tumbling at one end, Rinku held his ground and took the game to the last over.
KKR needed 21 runs in the last over, and Rinku almost pulled off an heist as he smashed Yash Thakur for 16 runs off his last three deliveries, but he couldn't help KKR cross the winning line as LSG won the game by the barest of margins (1 run). Rinku remained unbeaten on 67 off 33 balls.
Speaking to the official broadcaster, KKR captain Nitish Rana was in awe of Rinku and his hitting abilities under extreme pressure.
"The result didn't go in our favour but there are positives for us. We did better in a lot of things and we hope that we will come back stronger next season. You need to do well in all three departments and win matches back-to-back. We had the ability to finish well in the crunch situations but failed to finish it."
He added: "Looks like I have spoken Rinku all 14 times that I have held the mic after a match! I really don't have words to define him. If he can bat that way in that situation, then he can do anything!"
With this narrow win, LSG are assured of a place in the playoffs. They will finish at the third place, no matter the result of the matches that take place on Sunday.
