In an enthralling match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 19 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Eden Gardens, SRH emerged victorious by a comprehensive 23-run margin.

With this win, SRH secured the seventh position in the points table with two wins and as many defeats, while KKR found themselves at the fourth spot with the same results, but their superior net run rate placed them in the top-four.

After the game, SRH pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who registered impressive figures of 1/29 from his four overs in a high-scoring contest, reflected upon his side’s bowling strategy and lauded Harry Brook's sensational hundred that paved the way for their victory.

According to Bhuvneshwar, their primary objective was to take wickets early in the game. However, after the KKR's powerplay score equalled that of SRH, they had to reconsider their bowling plans.

He expressed his reluctance towards the use of too many slower balls or variations and emphasised on the importance of bowling in the right areas, according to the batter and the dimensions of the pitch.

“We just wanted to get wickets up front, but the way they scored in the 6th over, they were equal to us (powerplay score). I am not a big fan of too many slower balls or variations. You just got to bowl in the right areas. Try to bowl according to the batter and the dimensions,”

Furthermore, The veteran bowler applauded Brook's top-class innings, which proved to be the game-changer for SRH. He acknowledged the importance of having Brook in good form and his ability to take on any team.

“Top class innings (from Harry Brook), we needed that type of an innings from him. Having him among the runs is a big plus for us. He can take any team apart, that is why the management sent him to open the batting.”

Meanwhile, earlier in the game, SRH got off to a shaky start after being put in to bat first, but Harry Brook's attacking ton and Aiden Markram's quick-fire fifty helped them post a daunting 228/4.

KKR's chase didn’t get off to an ideal start as they were reduced to 20/3 by SRH's pacers, but Nitish Rana's stunning counter-attack and Rinku's late assault kept the game on edge. However, SRH's death bowling was a treat to watch as they managed to restrict KKR to 205/7, thereby securing a 23-run victory.
