Gujarat Giants (GG-W) and UP Warriorz (UP-W) are set to face off in Match 3 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. The exciting clash will take place on Sunday, February 16, at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

Giants have already played their opening game but suffered a 6-wicket loss against RCB. Their batting looked strong, but poor bowling and sloppy fielding cost them the match. As they prepare to take on UP Warriorz, they will be desperate to avoid repeating the same mistakes and secure their first win.

For UP Warriorz, this will be their first game of the season. Last year, they had an underwhelming campaign, finishing fourth with just three wins in eight matches. However, they have stuck with most of their squad from last season, with spin bowling as their biggest strength. Deepti Sharma, Laura Wolvaardt, and Sophie Ecclestone will be key players.

With the bat, UP Warriorz will miss their regular captain Alyssa Healy, as Deepti Sharma takes over the leadership role. Their batting lineup features Tahlia McGrath, Chamari Athapaththu, and Grace Harris, who will aim to turn things around this season.

Before the thrilling clash, let’s take a look at how these two teams have performed against each other in past WPL encounters.

GG-W vs UP-W: What Happened When They Last Played In WPL?

The last time GG and UP faced each other was in the 2024 WPL at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Warriorz fell short by 8 runs after Giants put up a strong performance. Giants batted first and posted 152/8 on the scoreboard. Their openers led the way, with Laura Wolvaardt scoring 43 runs and Beth Mooney smashing an unbeaten 74 off 52 balls, which included 10 fours and a six. Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers for UP-W, taking 3 wickets.

Chasing 153, UP Warriorz had a rocky start. Shabnam Shakil struck early, dismissing Alyssa Healy and Chamari Athapaththu in the first over. Kiran Navgire also fell quickly, with Kathryn Bryce taking her wicket.

The middle order struggled as Ashleigh Gardner removed Grace Harris, and Shabnam continued her brilliant spell by cleaning up Shweta Sehrawat. She finished with impressive figures of 3/11 in 4 overs.

Despite early setbacks, Deepti Sharma fought till the end with a fantastic unbeaten 88 off 60 balls, hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes. She got some support from Poonam Khemnar, who scored a steady 36 off 36 balls. However, apart from these two, no other UP-W batter managed to reach double digits, leading to an 8-run defeat for UP Warriorz.
