The ongoing Big Bash League witnessed a hilarious yet heartwarming moment at the Adelaide Oval during the clash between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat. In a rare and surreal incident, Liam Haskett's father, seated in the crowd, caught the ball off his debutant son’s bowling that left the fans in splits and disbelief.

The moment unfolded in the fourth over of Brisbane’s run chase when Nathan McSweeney launched a short-of-length delivery from Haskett into the midwicket stands. As the ball soared towards the crowd, Haskett’s father showcased impeccable reflexes and grabbed the ball with a traditional reverse-cup catch. His swift reaction drew loud cheers from the crowd, that included applause from his wife sitting beside him.

However, with a stern expression, he quickly tossed the ball back into play, visibly unimpressed as his son was being hit around the park.

Strikers Dominate High-Scoring Contest

It is important to mention that, Liam Haskett redeemed himself with a commendable debut performance, as he picked up two wickets and took a catch at deep midwicket. Adelaide Strikers emerged victorious by a massive 56-run margin in the high-scoring encounter.

The hosts set a daunting target of 251, powered by skipper Matthew Short’s scintillating 54-ball 109 and quickfire half-centuries by Chris Lynn and Alex Ross. The Heat struggled to gain momentum in their chase, with no batter managing to anchor the innings.

After this win, Adelaide Strikers are in the seventh position of the points table with three wins in eight matches they have played so far. On the other hand, Brisbane Heat are in the fourth position on the points table, with three wins in eight matches.
