Paul Sterling will captain Ireland. [PC: X]
After a dominating series victory over the Blackcaps, England will now host Ireland for a three-match ODI series with the first encounter set to take place on Wednesday, September 20th at Leeds, Headingley. However, with the World Cup just around the corner, there will be an entirely different England squad which will take on the Irish.
ENG vs IRE: Team Previews
England
Joe Root will be in action for England in this match. [PC: X]
A completely different England has been named to take on Ireland for the three-match ODI series. None of the England players flying to India to play in the World Cup will be in action against Ireland except Joe Root, who is also going to play the first ODI only.
Zak Crawley will make his captaincy debut for England, while Ben Duckett will play the role of the vice-captain. The 13-men England's squad comprises some of the big names like Will Jacks, Phil Salt and Luke Wood.
Uncapped players like Sam Hain, George Scrimshaw and Jamie Smith are included in the squad as well. Overall, a pretty balanced squad and despite being an experimental one one, they look capable of continuing England's dominance at home this season.
Ireland
Ireland failed to qualify for the World Cup. [PC: X]
On the other hand, Ireland are not going to play in the forthcoming World Cup after falling short in the qualifying event in Zimbabwe earlier this year.
Veteran opening batter Paul Stirling will lead the side in the three-match series with all the regulars like Andrew Balbirnie, left-arm pacer Joshua Little, Harry Tector, Mark Adair and George Dockrell available.
The Irish have only won four of the total 15 ODIs they played in 2023. Heading into this series, Ireland will be looking to turn things around and get some positive results on their side.
