Indian speedster Deepak Chahar has opted himself out of India’s fifth T20I match against Australia in Bengaluru citing family emergency. The cricketer, who was added to India’s squad for the final two matches of the series, claimed two wickets in team’s 20-run series-clinching win in Raipur a couple of days.

However, prior to Bengaluru T20I, Chahar reportedly left for Aligarh to be with his family.

Arshdeep Singh replaces Chahar

Deepak Chahar, who recently made his comeback into India’s international setup for the fourth T20I match against Australia, has opted himself out of team’s subsequent showdown in Bengaluru. Citing family emergency, the cricketer has reportedly flown out of the city to travel to Aligarh.

With Chahar’s sudden departure, his teammate Arshdeep Singh has been considered as his replacement in the playing XI. Singh was included in India’s starting XI in their first three high-scoring games of the series.

The 24-year-old, however, failed to impress as he conceded above 40 runs in each of his three spells, at lackluster returns of just two wickets.

With series already in India’s pocket, the team management have given young Arshdeep an additional opportunity, in lieu of next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States.

Team India trounced Australia in the first two matches, before Australia bounced back in Guwahati to reduce their series deficit. The hosts eventually sealed the series in Raipur in subsequent T20I chapter off the back of Axar Patel’s spin dexterity and belligerent batting from young guns Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma.
