County Championship Division One Round-up: September 29

The remaining matches of the County Championship Division One came to conclusion on Thursday (September 29). Here's a brief report on the action that transpired in Birmingham and Northampton. 


Warwickshire vs Hampshire

Warwickshire were at 62/2 at the start of Day 4 in Birmingham. The likes of Dom Sibley (77) and Alex Davies (32) were the key contributors as they were dismissed for a total of 177, and set a target of 139 runs for the visitors. 


In response, Hampshire's openers Felix Organ and Ian Holland could not provide a good start to the team. It was Nick Gubbins' belligerent knock of 46 which kept them in the hunt, amid threatening bowling from Liam Norwell. 

Norwell secured a nerve-wracking victory for Warwickshire by five runs with a double strike in a single over, and finished with figures of 9/62.

Northamptonshire vs Essex

Essex resumed the Final day on 63/5 at Northampton. Then, Simon Harmer (16) and Sam Cook (17) were the saving grace for the team, as they managed to post 110 on the board, and set a target of 211. Jack White was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with six wickets. 


In response, skipper Will Young and Ricardo Vasconcelos scored 30 each to provide a stable start to the Northants. However, the middle-order fell to the proficient bowling performances of Harmer and Cook. 

Then, Gareth Berg emerged as the top-scorer for Northants with 39 runs, as Essex won the game by 47 runs. Harmer returned with six wickets, followed by Cook with three scalps.
