IPL witnessed one of the greatest match in the history of the league as Punjab Kings defended the lowest total. Notably, PBKS, batting first, tumbled for 112 runs on the board. In reply, KKR failed to chase down the total and only managed to put 95 runs on the board.
It was a nail-biting thriller as KKR, who were looking to chase down the total comfortably, lost by 16 runs. Notably, the defending champions were 62/2 at one point and lost next eight wickets for 33 runs.
Meanwhile, a controversy too erupted in the thriller match as Anrich Nortje was asked to change his bat by the umpires as he walked to bat after the ninth wicket fell for KKR. Notably, Nortje came to bat when KKR were 95/9 but the play was halted as the South African star was asked to change the bat.
Why Did The Umpire Ask Nortje To Change The Bat?
It is worth noting that since Sunday, umpires have begin random bat inspection where they check the bat sizes with a tool and in case of any issue, they ask the batter to change the bat. Usually, all the bats are within the allowed dimensions, but Nortje's case was the first time in this edition that a batter was asked to change his bat.
Notably, the checking tool failed to go through the bat as its width exceeded the permitted width for a bat. Thus, Nortje changed the bat and his bat was again checked, following which he was allowed to bat.
