Sri Lankan men's team head coach Chris Silverwood is confident that the Sri Lankan team will come back stronger in their next Asia Cup 2022 fixture against Bangladesh on September 1.

Sri Lanka's Asia Cup campaign got off to a humiliating start as they were bundled out for a paltry 105 by Afghanistan bowlers. In response, the Lankan bowlers were pummelled by openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The duo took the lead and drove Afghanistan to a crushing victory over Sri Lanka.

Silverwood on future fixtures

There is a long history between the two Asian heavyweights. In the last five encounters between the two nations, Sri Lanka have won three to Bangladesh's two but all encounters have been tightly contested.

"I think the first game against Afghanistan was an eye opener for the Sri Lanka team and we have to adjust to the conditions and come back strongly,"

Silver wood wants his senior players to take responsibility and lead Sri Lanka's fightback in the next game against the Bangla Tigers.

"I am sure senior players will guide the juniors and this T20 format is very important and always make less mistakes during the 20 overs".
